Transitioning from R-22
R-22 refrigerant will be 99.5% phased out in use in commercial and residential HVAC products by 2020. In 2015 alone, consumption was reduced by 90%. With that in mind, there are three options worth considering: leave your aging systems in place, convert to an alternative refrigerant, or replace your systems with new equipment. Should you leave your dated systems in place, they will require more maintenance, resulting in longer downtime and higher maintenance expenses. If you were to convert your systems to an alternative refrigerant, operating efficiency and reliability will be greatly affected, negatively impacting the quality of your residents’ comfort and increasing their utility costs. However, replacing systems with new equipment makes the most sense—for peak performance and immediate and long-term return on your investment.
